BACK IN BRAZIL! EXPEDITION IN A FORGOTTEN JUNGLE…
In 2023 I will head out into the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil to look for Bothrops jararacussu, Tropidophis paucisquamis, Macrogenioglottus alipoi, Diploglossus fasciatus, and many other top targets!
This 10-day expedition is being organized in partnership with Herping Brazil. You have the opportunity to join me to explore a fascinating, yet underrepresented destination that very few herpers know first-hand. The Atlantic Rainforest harbors an incredibly rich biota ; 90% of the amphibian species from this tropical forest can be found nowhere else! The expedition will mostly take place in the south of São Paulo which hosts extremely well preserved wet montane forests, mangroves and sandbank forests. Activities will consist primarily of daily hikes. There will be an opportunity for road-cruising, boat safari and possibly snorkeling. The trip should be fun! We might spot hummingbirds, toucans, monkeys, and there is a chance fo large mammals such as tapir!
And who knows… With lot of luck, maybe we will be able to find one of the rarest snake in the world, the Copran’s Boa Corallus copranii ! We will be in the terra typica…

En 2023 je pars sur les traces de Bothrops jararacussu, Tropidophis paucisquamis, Macrogenioglottus alipoi, Diploglossus fasciatus, et bien d’autres espèces remarquables de la « Mata Atlantica » (Forêt Atlantique) au Brésil!
Cette expédition est réalisée en partenariat avec Herping Brazil, et je vous propose de m’accompagner pendant 10 jours pour découvrir un biotope fascinant, peu médiatisé, et peu connu des herpétologues. La « Mata Atlantica » possède une exceptionnelle richesse biologique ; 90% des amphibiens présents dans cette forêt tropicale n’existent nulle part ailleurs!
Cette expédition se concentre principalement sur le sud de São Paulo qui abrite des forêts d’altitude, des mangroves, et des forêts littorales extrêmement bien conservées. Pas mal de randonnées en perspective mais le circuit inclut également safari en bateau, roadcruising de nuit et même du snorkeling si l’occasion se présente. Colibris, toucans, singes, et tapirs sont susceptibles d’agrémenter l’expédition !
Et qui sait… Avec beaucoup de chance, peut-être arriverons nous à voir un des serpents les plus rares du monde, le Boa Corallus copranii ! Nous serons sur les terres de sa découverte…
